Sept. IWSG: Blogging Struggles, Big Girl Pants, & Honing the Craft

What do these 3 things have in common? For me, everything.

It's no secret, I've lost that bloggin' feelin'. I can hear Maverick and Goose serenading me as I write this post. (Yeah, right.) But seriously, folks, the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. Since I decided to reduce my blogging down to once a month (IWSG post day), I've not only lost followers, but my comments went down from between 50-75, down to 4. I've been a lousy blogger. I can only blame myself. Really.

But I'm getting the work done. Perfecting my manuscript. Honing my craft. Every time I make a pass, the manuscript only improves. I won't lose focus of the big picture. Publication. Because truth is, it's why I've set out on this journey.

So, no pity party. I wear big girl pants.

I have to endure the struggle. No matter what the cost.

Honing Your Craft

I read CALL OF THE WILD in 1981. My copy still sits on my bookshelf today. Jack London and his character Buck made quite an impression on me back then. I'd like to share his philosophy about honing your craft.

1. Be decisive, choose something, then attack it.
2. Be persistent, endure struggle, and hone your craft.
3. Develop a routine and be relentless about it.
4. Settle into a groove and make the act of creating part of your life.

This article here goes on to say, Jack London was "horrifyingly prolific" when it came to writing. *whistles* What I wouldn't give to have someone say that about me some day. Wishes do no harm, right?
