National Library Week -- Visit One Today & Grab Some Books

"We may sit in our library and yet be in all corners of the earth." ~ John Lubbock

When I served as an elementary school Library Assistant, Lubbock's quote hung near my desk. From within the walls of a library, patrons may travel any place, any time they desire. I used to tell my students, "Yes, it's that simple." Oh, how they'd grumble and moan when I took them on their annual non-fiction tour, but often times, I'd find them sprawled on the floor in those very sections during their visits.

"Libraries are reservoirs of strength, grace, and wit, reminders of order, calm and continuity, lakes of mental energy, neither warm nor cold, light nor dark... In any library in the world, I am at home, unselfconscious, still and absorbed." ~ Germaine Greer

I visit my local library weekly. By nature, I'm a rule follower, so I respect their need for order, quietness, and organization. (I've only had a late fee once. I swear.)

As I meander down the aisles, I hear the soft whispers of the books from the shelves. Pick me, they say. I never leave without the ten-book limit clutched in my arms. Libraries are magical, enticing, captivating, and addictive.

For me... "A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life." Henry Ward Beecher

What do libraries mean to you?

The video "An Ode to Books" is beautiful. If you know a librarian, send this to them.

SUCKER LITERARY AN ANTHOLOGY

Some of you may recall I had a YA story published in SUCKER LITERARY last year. Volume II of the anthology is out and available in print and digital formats. SUCKER LITERARY AN ANTHOLOGY (Amazon Kindle Edition)
Createspace (paperback)
Amazon (paperback)

Although I didn't submit a story for Vol. II, I did continue on as a Sucker Staff reader. A huge part of me loves reading over other writers' works and assisting the Editorial Staff. SUCKER LITERARY is the brainchild of the fabulous Editor, Hannah Goodman.

Do you write dark, edgy YA? Have a strong & authentic YA voice? Here's where you can find their Submission Guidelines. They're open for submissions for Vol. III until May 1, 2013. You can find out what type of stories they're looking for HERE.

Hannah is excellent with communication. If you have a question about an idea or story you want to submit, give her a nudge either on Twitter @SuckerLitMag or leave her a comment on the blog. You can also follow Sucker on FB HERE.

Thank Goodness for IWSG

I'm not a fan of PDW (public display of whining), but since it's IWSG day, I figure what the heck? This is the one post I can let it all out. Right?

Blogging or lack thereof is my insecurity for April's entry for Alex Cavanaugh's Insecure Writers Support Group. Thanks to our wonderful host, Alex and his helpers this month, Annalisa, Julie, and Elsie!

Okay, don't throw rotten tomatoes at me, but...

I'm not participating in the A to Z blog challenge. There, I said it.

It seems most of the blogging community is taking part in this awesome challenge. Last time I looked, over 1,960 bloggers had signed up! Kudos to the hosts! Those numbers are phenomenal!

Some of you have asked, don't you think it'll cut down on your comments, followers? Yes, it will. But at this point, I have to take those risks.

I've chosen not to participate for personal health reasons. Reasons that make sitting at this computer almost unbearable. The same reasons have kept me away from Facebook, Twitter and visiting other blogs. I've tried to pop in here and there and say hello. But lately, I've had to dedicate all of my computer time to writing & revisions.

Ultimately, the actual writing and getting the work done has to be numero uno.

I've come to love and admire and really care for many of my bloggy friends, and I can only hope a few return my sentiments. In the past month, I've cut down on the blogging, and I've already seen a huge drop in the comments.

But I need to act like a grownup. I need to be okay with this. And if I loose followers forever, well, I'll have to accept that, too. Please know, if I've followed you, you obviously rock, and just because I don't visit as often, doesn't mean I don't love you! Cuz, I still do. <3

To all of you bloggers out there participating, I wish you the BEST of luck with the challenge. Have fun! Get creative! Be inspired!
