Writing Resolutions for 2012

Setting New Year's resolutions usually leads to disappointment when I fail to meet my own expectations. I thought long and hard yesterday about setting some reasonable goals for my writing resolutions for 2012. Here's what I've set for myself:

  • Continue to search for a literary agent for my picture book, LITTLE ACORN'S BIG FALL. (Hopefully, one whose interested in my other wips.)
  • Complete my non-fiction wip.
  • Write (something-and make every word count!) for at least 1 hour every single day.
  • Redraft VINEGAROON MOON.
  • Fine tune my critique skills with SCBWI group.
What are some of your goals for your craft?

  1. Wow, those are great goals.

My goal for my craft is to read a book a week. And to query my manuscript like mad. :)

  2. You've got some great resolutions.

I wish you the best of luck finding an agent for your darling picture book. I'm sure there is an agent just right for you who can help you with a writing career and not just this one book.

  3. Great job Candy! My goals are all laid out at my blog, in fact along with some housekeeping I couldn't whittle them down to less that three posts! Wishing you all the best in 2012 and that your dreams will come true as you work toward your goals.

  4. I'm afraid I just have one right now: finish rewriting my WIP. It's been going on for quite long enough, and I would really like to have it sorted.

  5. Kelly, Wishing you the best in 2012. Stephen King says a successful writer must read. I can't recall the quote exactly, but it's something like that. Good luck with your querying. :))

Angela, Thank you so much! I wish you all the best in 2012 as well. :))

Elizabeth, Off to check out your goals. Wishing you the best in the New Year!

CD, Having just one is probably the smart thing to do! As always, I've set one too many. I figure I have 365 days, I'm bound to reach most goals. How long have you been working on your wip? Wishing you a successful 2012. :))

  6. Okay, just have to say “Little Acorn’s Big Fall” is an absolutely adorable title. I don’t know anything about kids lit, or picture books, but as an Aunt to a growing brood, I would totally stop and pick that up!

As far as goals… argh… just refining the query and synopsis while waiting for feedback from my beta readers! This kind of feels like a vacation, but I know it’s just the calm before the storm. Or worse, the calm before the nothing ever happens. Ha...

  7. Lauren, thanks for the vote of confidence! I thought the title was adorable too! I had a bit of a set-back with the PB last week, but I'm working through it. The set-back may cause a bit of a re-write, again!

Best of luck with your query and synop!!!
